Use Alipay for Payments in China



Download the Alipay App

Go to the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android) and download the Alipay app.



Registration
  Open the app and select "Sign Up" or "Register".
  Provide your mobile phone number (you can use an international number).


You will receive a text message with your Verification Code. If you don't receive one, do check the Spam folder of your Message App.


Select your country from the list.


  

Registration is complete! You will see Alipay's home screen.



Link a payment card
Press "Pay/Receive".


Tap on "Add a Card".


  • Enter your card details
    • Supported cards are credit and debit cards from:
    • Visa
    • Mastercard
    • JCB
    • Discover
    • Diners Club International
    • Union Pay International

 


Set your Payment Password

Important: You will enter this Payment Password every time you make a purchase with Alipay but you can enable FaceID or Finger Print for much quicker authorisation.


Alipay may charge a small temporary fee to verify the card. This fee will be refunded.

Registration is complete.


Paying with Alipay

Two scenarios:
  1) The merchant has a QR code: press the "Scan" button.
  2) The merchant has a scanner: press the "Pay/Receive" button to show your QR code.
  


Tips for Using Alipay

  Transaction Limits: Be aware that there may be limits on transactions for unverified accounts. Completing identity verification increases these limits.



  

On your first few transactions, Alipay might require verification codes from your card issuing bank via text messages. Therefore it's important to have your mobile phone (the one registered with your bank) roaming and ready to receive text messages from your bank.

Customer Support: If you encounter issues, Alipay offers customer support in English. You can contact them through the app.
